The Partido Popular Mayoral Candidate for Orihuela, Monica Lorente, officially opened the new party offices in Orihuela Costa today. The office, which is located in Cabo Roig will be a hub of activity over the next two weeks as the municipal election campaign intensifies. More than 200 people attended the inauguration, which saw a multi lingual introduction to accommodate the many European residents who live on the coast. The Mayor highlighted her party’s commitment to the coast and pledged her continuing support for the forthcoming term of administration. She said: “We have listened to the residents of the coast and we know what is needed and that is why in our electoral programme we have addressed those needs and included projects that will benefit every single coastal resident, young and old.” The main projects which will benefit all coastal residents and visitors include a new municipal library, a municipal theatre, a youth centre, an elderly care home and the construction of a coastal park, which will provide a focus point on the coast for residents and tourists to enjoy leisure activities. The party also proposes to
increase the urban bus lines and also introduce a bus line from Orihuela Costa to Alicante, Murcia and more importantly, the airports at San Javier and El Altet. Monica added: “Our beaches, which already boast five Quality awards and seven Blue Flags and are the best in the Valencian Community if not Spain, will be improved even further with new access points and digital information screens at the entrances of each of Orihuela’s eleven beaches. We will also install three marine swimming pools so that the residents and visitors can bathe easily and safely and we will make improvements to the local coastline, in particular the marine nature park for the benefit of snorkelers and under water photography enthusiasts.” Ms Lorente continued: “Our city is important to us and we are very proud of its cultural history. We feel that coastal residents should have the opportunity to visit the city’s heritage sites on a regular basis and so we are proposing to provide regular free guided tours from the coast to the city so that residents can experience the wonderful attractions that the city has to offer.” Finally, the Mayor concluded: “You can have confidence in the Partido Popular. We are committed to integration on the coast and to providing employment and opportunities to ensure a better quality of life for everyone in the municipality. There is no alternative. There is no party that could do a better job and no better team than the one that is already in place on the coast.”
