A 56 year old British man was arrested last week after trying to pay for items at a supermarket using a forged €50 note. The man, an Orihuela Costa resident, was at the supermarket in the Punta Prima complex when he presented the fake note and following a call to the Local Police, he was promptly arrested and taken to the Guardia Civil station in Torre de la Horadada, where he was charged with the offence and fast tracked to Orihuela court. This was the second occasion recently when a forged €50 note has been used in the area. The second incident involved a 25 year old man who tried to pay for his petrol at the supermarket in La Zenia using one of the forgeries. He too was apprehended and taken to the Guardia Civil station in Torre de la Horadada where he was charged with the offence. The Local Police ask all residents to be extra vigilant, especially local businesses, as it appears that there may be a lot of these fake €50 notes in circulation, particularly in Orihuela Costa.
